The Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis (ARUC) acknowledges the concerns raised regarding the opening of a commercial outlet selling low-THC cannabis products near Stella Maris College, Gżira. The ARUC fully understands and empathises with the concerns expressed by parents, educators, and the general public and reaffirms that the protection of minors remains a priority.
While ARUC maintains strict oversight of non-profit cannabis harm reduction associations, the Authority does not currently have the statutory power to regulate for-profit outlets selling products with less than 0.2% THC. To address this, ARUC was involved in the drafting of a new Bill to introduce formal regulation and enforcement for such commercial operators, which is currently undergoing necessary clearances.
ARUC has communicated directly with the College’s Director and is working with relevant entities to explore all available measures within the current legal framework.
We remain committed to monitoring the situation closely and providing a robust legislative solution.

L-ARUC tifhem u tempatizza bis-sħiħ mat-tħassib tal-ġenituri, l-edukaturi, u l-pubbliku ġenerali u tisħaq li l-protezzjoni tal-minorenni hija prijorita’.
Filwaqt li l-ARUC twettaq sorveljanza stretta tal-assoċjazzjonijiet liċenzjati minnha li joperaw mingħajr skop ta’ qligħ, l-Awtorita’ s’issa m’għandhiex is-setgħa legali li tirregola ħwienet li jbigħu prodotti b’inqas minn 0.2% THC. F’dan l-isfond, l-ARUC kienet involuta fit-tfassil ta’ Abbozz ta’ Liġi ġdid sabiex jiġu introdotti regolamenti u infurzar għal operaturi kummerċjali f’dan il-qasam, liema abbozz bħalissa għaddej minn process ta’ skrutinju.
L-ARUC ikkomunikat direttament mad-Direttur tal-Kulleġġ u qed taħdem mal-entitajiet rilevanti biex tesplora l-miżuri kollha disponibbli fil-qafas legali attwali.
L-ARUC tibqa’ impenjata li tissorveljaw is-sitwazzjoni mill-qrib u li tipprovdi soluzzjoni leġiżlattiva robusta.
